Silvestre Technique
Rosangela Silvestre
Silvestre technique, native to Salvador Bahia is a continuously evolving contemporary dance technique with the objective of conditioning the dancer through physical and expressive training regardless of level or prior training. In 1982, Rosangela Silvestre began the early stages of developing her technique, which over time has developed into a series of exercises working to train the mind, body and spirit. Exercises are based upon fundamental symbols of African Ancestral Memory and gestures, the four elements of Nature, Earth, water, air , fire, the chakras and the triangles intuition expression and balance. Classes are accompanied by live music to further awaken expression and inspiration. All levels are welcomed and encouraged.

Examines and interprets symbols, gestures and movements derived from the Yoruba deities. Traditional movement and sequence interpretations are introduced as we identify their specific energies and traits in relation to the 4 elements: Earth Water Air and Fire.
Rescuing Mythological Memory - Fusion of traditional and modern Movement

Rescuing Mythological Memory is a class organized in three parts and starts with sequences to activate choreographic memory. A more honed warm up proposes and prepares the body for thematic sequence fusing traditional and the modern movement. The last component of the class consists of a brief introduction to the chosen theme and development of dance vernacular which could include some improvisation.
Movements of the Sacred Dances of the Cuban Orichas

Classes offer movement form from the Yoruba, Arara, and Congo/Bantu Orixa cultural art traditions from Cuba. Students will develop a physical and intellectual vocabulary for integrating subtle polyrhythmic movements to build alignment in the full expression and embodiment of the dance - the focus being on the possibilities of movement for individual body parts and how to combine the specific articulations to rhythm and time. Safe and non-competitive classroom environment in the spirit of learning.
Musicality of Candomblé Rhythms and Song (Brazil)
With Alysson Bruno. Assisting Luciano da Silva e Renato Pereira
Alysson will be teaching a two part class - First, an advanced drumming for the orixas and then, a class on the songs that go with the drumming for the orixas. This class is open to all students.
Musicality of Santeria Rhythms and Song (Cuba)
With Luca Brandolli
AfroCuban Percussionist and Singer, Luca Brandoli, offers mixed levels Drum and Song lessons in all AfroCuban Folkloric genres including: Yoruba (Bembe and Bata), Rumba (Yambu, Guanganco, Columbia), Congo/ Bantu, Franco Haitiano, and Arara/Dahomey styles. His teaching experience as a University Professor combined with his specialized background as a ceremonial (Awkpon) singer/lead drummer make his classes an interesting and comprehensive learning experience that offers a deep immersion into the expansive regional music styles of Cuba. Students will not only learn the various rhythms and individual drum parts but they will also learn the accompanied words and lyrics to each song while playing and singing simultaneously.
